Straight answers

Questions everyone asks first.

The score, your 30-day plan, the AI Gym and the whole hub are free. Safe Side of AI grew out of free community classes run by AiAutomateUK in West London — keeping it free for the people who need it most is the whole point. If we ever add paid extras, the core stays free.

No. If you can send an email, you can do everything here. Plain English is a house rule — if your nan wouldn’t get it, we rewrite it.

Your Safety Score is calculated in your own browser — your quiz answers never leave your device. The only thing we store is your email address, and only if you choose to subscribe to the briefing. Unsubscribe any time with one click.

Absolutely. The score, Gym, tool library and briefing work anywhere in the UK. In-person sessions run in Ealing, Fulham and Hammersmith — and we run online meetups so nobody misses out.

Honest answer: AI takes tasks before it takes jobs. Most roles will change rather than vanish — and people who learn to use AI early tend to become more valuable, not less. The Safety Score shows which of your tasks are exposed, and your plan gets you ahead of the change instead of underneath it.

Two minutes from now, you’ll know where you stand.

Free forever for the people who need it most. That’s the whole point.

Start with the task, not the tech. Every tool here has a free version and a plain-English job description.

✍️

“I want to write faster”

Free

Emails, letters, CVs, reports — drafted in seconds, then you make them yours.

Try: ChatGPT · Claude · Gemini
⚠️ House rule: never paste confidential or customer data into a free AI tool.
📄

“I want AI to read documents for me”

Free

Upload a long PDF or report, then ask it questions like you would a colleague who’d read it.

Try: Claude · NotebookLM
💡 Always ask: “What are the 3 things I’d be embarrassed not to know from this?”
📊

“I want help with spreadsheets”

Free

Describe what you want in English — “add up sales by month” — and get the formula or the analysis.

Try: Copilot in Excel · ChatGPT · Claude
💡 Paste a few example rows (with private details removed) so it sees your layout.
🗣️

“I’d rather talk than type”

Free

Speak a rambling voice note; get back tidy minutes, a quote, or a job write-up. Perfect for trades.

Try: ChatGPT voice mode · your phone’s dictation + any chatbot
🎨

“I need posters, flyers and socials”

Free

Design like you’ve got a designer: templates plus AI for images and copy, no skills needed.

Try: Canva (free plan)
🤖

“I want the boring stuff to do itself”

Free tier

Connect your apps so invoices file themselves and enquiries get an instant reply.

Try: Zapier · Make (both have free tiers)
💡 Start with ONE automation. The classic: new enquiry email → instant friendly holding reply.
🛡️

“Is this real or AI? Am I being scammed?”

Free

Slow down, check the source, reverse-search the image, and never act on urgency alone.

Learn: our deepfake-spotting Gym lesson · Google reverse image search
⚠️ Golden rule: any message that is urgent + emotional + asks for money or codes = stop and verify by another channel.
💷

“I want to earn with AI skills”

Free to start

Turn one AI skill into a small service: CV polishing, social posts for local shops, tidy bookkeeping.

Every buzzword you’ll hear this year, translated. Tap to open.

Software that can do things that used to need a human brain — reading, writing, spotting patterns, making decisions. Think of it as: a very fast, very confident new colleague who never gets tired but sometimes gets things wrong.

An AI you talk to by typing (or speaking) — ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are the big ones. Think of it as: a keen intern. It does what you ask, as well as your instructions allow.

The instruction you give an AI. Better prompt, better result. Think of it as: a briefing. “Write an email” gets rubbish; “write a 3-line apology to a customer, warm tone, offer 10% off” gets gold.

The engine inside a chatbot — a system trained on huge amounts of text so it can predict what words come next. Think of it as: the engine under the bonnet. You don’t need to understand it to drive.

When AI confidently makes something up — a fake statistic, a court case that doesn’t exist. Think of it as: the intern bluffing in a meeting. That’s why the house rule is: AI drafts, you check.

AI that creates new things — text, images, music, video — rather than just sorting or finding existing ones. Think of it as: the difference between a filing clerk and a copywriter.

AI that doesn’t just answer — it takes actions: books things, fills systems in, completes multi-step jobs. Think of it as: the intern being allowed to use the office computer, not just answer questions. Big in 2026 — worth watching.

Making a task run by itself, on a trigger — “when an enquiry arrives, send the price list”. Often no AI needed at all. Think of it as: a row of dominoes you set up once.

AI-made fake video, photo or voice that looks and sounds real — increasingly used in scams. Think of it as: photoshop for everything, including your boss’s voice. Verify unusual requests by another channel, always.

How AI gets good: it learns patterns from examples instead of following hand-written rules. Think of it as: learning to cook by tasting a thousand dishes rather than reading one recipe.

What changed

AI agents are moving from demos to real workplaces.

What it means for you: tools that don’t just answer questions but complete tasks — filing, booking, updating systems — are arriving in ordinary workplaces. The person who knows how to supervise them becomes more valuable, not less.

Try this: in the Jargon Buster, read “AI Agent” (30 seconds), so the word doesn’t rattle you in your next team meeting.

Tool worth trying

Voice notes → tidy text is the most underrated trick of the year.

What it means for you: if your job keeps you on your feet — trades, care, retail — you can do your paperwork by talking. Ramble into your phone; AI turns it into a quote, minutes or a handover note.

Try this: today’s Gym rep takes you through it in 5 minutes.

Safe to ignore

You do not need to learn to code.

What it means for you: the loudest advice online is “learn Python”. For most UK workers the higher-value skill is much simpler: describing what you want clearly (prompting) and checking AI’s work. Ignore the panic-buying of coding courses.

The AI Gym · Today’s 5-minute rep

Day 1 — Make AI write your first email.

The one idea

AI chatbots aren’t search engines — they’re interns. A search engine finds things; an intern does things, but only as well as your instructions. The trick isn’t being technical. It’s being specific.

🏋️ Try this at your desk (60 seconds): Open any free AI chatbot and type: “Write a polite email to my manager asking to shift my Thursday shift to Friday. Keep it under 80 words. Friendly but professional.” Then tell it one thing to change. That second message — the follow-up — is the skill 80% of people never learn.

Quick check

Which instruction gets the best result from an AI assistant?

🔥 Correct — specific beats polite every time. That’s Day 1 done. Streak started!
🔒

Day 2 — Make AI read a document for you.

Unlocks tomorrow — streaks are the point. Or subscribe and we’ll deliver each day’s rep to your inbox.

Nice work. Want tomorrow’s rep delivered?

Daily 5-minute reps plus the Sunday briefing, straight to your inbox. The streak takes care of itself.

✅ Done — Day 2 lands tomorrow morning. See you then.
